Notable absentees this year

financialpost.com

It is hard not to notice the many empty booths around the PDAC convention floor this year. Nor is it surprising, as many struggling companies are hoarding their cash and simply cannot afford the expense.

But there are a number of mining companies who can easily afford it and chose not to attend. One is HudBay Minerals Inc., which is waging a proxy battle with its largest shareholder and is still stinging from the collapse of its attempted takeover of Lundin Mining Corp. If the company was here, it would likely face a host of difficult questions from its shareholders.

Everyone is well familiar with the gold-mining setbacks in Venezuela, so it is no surprise that Gold Reserve Inc. has no booth. However, Crystallex International Corp. actually does have one.
