It shouldn't be a quandary...don't do it. Academics have been getting into the business of becoming rich on their research and their reputations for a generation now. Other professionals do it too but Academics should be immune from this since it is their job to seek out the truth instead of the biggest paycheck.

They take taxpayer money. They should either become a wholly owned subsidiary of big business and forego taxpayer bennies or give up the big business paycheck which only screws up the research and the teaching.

Money corrupts even when it's just those dumb giveaways from pharmaceutical companies.
