Not really. Many, myself included, saw that he was exactly the right set of skills for the moment in this country's history. I didn't vote for a black man or a nice guy. I voted for a guy who knows how to use diplomacy, has a passion for renewable energy, wanted to end the Iraq war, wanted to bring transparency and accountability back to our government, wanted to take the tax structure back to a more equitable progressive structure that keeps the American dream alive, and was the most intelligent and thoughtful of all the candidates.
Also, one thing we all need to keep in mind is that Bush's was an extreme right administration. If 1 is liberal and 10 is conservative, we went from a 5 in 2000 to a 10 by 2006. Then 2007-8 was a stasis with the Dems getting voted into Congress. Now Obama is trying to roll back all the rightwingnut excesses. That may very well look like a very liberal agenda, but really, he's trying to get us back to where we were in 2000, which was back to the center.
On that same scale I'd say I'm a 6...center-right. So I'm very unhappy now, but will be much happier at a 5 than I am at a 10. The only ones complaining about Obama now are the very far right folks. The Independent and Dems are loving what he's doing. I myself, think he's got it about 90% correct. |
