I call a subsidy a free ride. In addition, I call fighting wars for oil and oil companies not paying for it, a free ride. Oil has had one hell of a good partner in the GOP Congress through 2006 and Bush through 2008. That's as free of a ride as they come.

The fact is that had we been using something else to power our planes, trains, and automobiles besides oil, we would not feel so compelled to piss everyone in the Middle East off in our headlong desire to suck up the world's supply of oil. That would have helped us avoid most of the messes we have with the Muslim world today.
