You are correct, Pigboy. FC, GE, ATM will be deployed to the desktop in some niche markets. I have customers today who are installing GE NICs for high performance visualization/modelling applications.

But let's admit that these applications do not define the market.

IMHO, GE will be the dominant technology in the campus backbone and the data center over the next few years. ATM will end up in the WAN. FC will be used for storage, peripheral connections, and other environments (islands) that don't need to communicate with the outside world.
