<Specifically, we need to extract control of power management. We don't want to create a scenario where different companies have different power-management schemes and it doesn't all work properly>

This sounds like an excuse not to license the powerbook and to control the market their in. While Apple talks and talks, their competitive advantage is diminishing. The PowerBooks share of notebook sales are slipping.

Even Power Computing commented that working with Intel was much easier than Apple. When a company says something like that, what type of an image does Apple get?

What Apple needs now more than ever is a CEO that has a good marketing strategy. It is obvious Jobs does not suit that role. He has reversed the clone strategy and de-emphasized the role of Rhapsody to corporate and networks. Those are 2 big mistakes that will haunt Apple in the future. You may say like everyone else on this board that they had to kill clones to survive. But in the long-run with fewer and fewer Mac Boxes, this will diminish the role of the Mac OS and with it the applications development.
