<Some companies used to include a loss taken on the sale>

went through that four times myself. Loss on sale was always covered, and when interest rates were sky high, there was also a mortgage interest rate differential the company would pay in addition to "points" trying to equalize moving from a high value area to a low property value area. I would have gotten hosed when the company asked me to move had they not had those policies. There are a lot more variables today to consider...I would imagine corporate moves have throttled back.
