I can understand a President making his own mark on the Oval Office. That's expected. But why not return the bust in a more diplomatic fashion, if bent on returning it at all.

After serious consideration, I've come to the conclusion that the bust was insulting to The One. I believe he actually hated the idea of having it anywhere near him, and ordered it removed before his eyes had a chance to glance at it. OTOH Bush may have ordered it returned before his term expired because it was a loan from Blair, and it was dutifully removed before he left?

Anything is plausible, but there are more important issues to worry about.

Besides, I'm beginning to not care.
