I listened to some other "mavens" and while some even correctly address a possible overshooting of P/Es into single digits they still try to pick a bottom, or in better words, suggest that the average bottom picker could be successful ("to make money you have to pick the bottom").

That´s the wrong attitude in my opinion; it underscores my stance to leave the bleeding of the books to others. I keep it with Bill; 7 years ago he said the market can not be timed. This is still valid today.

Here, Blogget says the Shiller PE is about 12, historically it was 20, stocks are "cheap" on a long term basis...
