I know because I made several attempts of reading Don Q and Moby D back then but with meager results. I read most of the French (Rabelais, Stendal, Flaubert, even read all of de Sade), German (some, Faust I read later in German) and Russian (except Tolstoy) classics back then, no problem. But the full version of Don Q and most Shakespeare (except Romeo when being in love in the early 20s) is aimed at a more mature audience.

One may claim to have read it but it takes a more mature personality to understand and enjoy any of it.
