Before I finished my first analysis, I found plays incredibly intense- . . .

That was my experience with O'Neill's plays, coming from Beckett. Typically, I would work through the plays again and again after I had seen them; read interpretations; try to figure out just where they questioned me; and so on.

We saw August Osage County last fall, however, and I could only barely connect. My wife and I wandered into a bar afterward to talk about it and found ourselves with only a few short sentences and then home.

Boy does this bring memories back, however. My wife and I've been talking about this and she reminds me of my attachment to The Fantastiks. thefantasticks.com. One of the longest running plays in NYC. I believe it was in the Village the entire time.

I saw it sometime in 60-61 and loved it. Had yet to meet my wife. And, of course, she had to see it. And loved it as well.

Wonder what else memory will pull up?
