i suggest your friend contact state for her personal situation. all states administer medicaid to their own qualifications. incomes, and what makes up income differs in many states. owning your home from what i know has nothing to do with qualifications for medicaid. some states always reserve the right to go after your equity when the home is sold. i have never heard of it being done.

there are many parts of medicaid , and other state programs that she can qualify like pace that pays part of rental or real estate tax reimbursement.. i qualified for it a few times. mistakenly i withdrew too much from ira last year and pa. counts the whole amount as income vs savings for program purposes. there is also low income forgiveness for state income tax. there is pace for medical coverage?. then of course nursing home care.

You friend could also check with local senior center. As i remember they had social workers available there or can direct you to people who could help guide her.
