I also saw restaurants filled on my latest trip. Everywhere I went had a wait.........even on weeknights. Tho I did go to mid priced restaurants which are popular in most regions of the US. From Atlanta back to Ca........the restaurants I went to last week were full of eatin clients! Comfort food is the name of the game when all else fails.............there is something primitive and primal in our need to fill our tummies when we are in a "downcycle".
