The right has NOT decreased spending, which is what got them in the mess they're in these past eight years. But I know you know that. THe problem is actually just what young Krohn said. The Rep moved away from conservative principles and lost the confidence of too many.
Now you have desperate people who just want help and don't really care who did what when.
As KLP said, pensions have been lost, IRA's decimated, investments destroyed. And what party was in power as all this happened? If you want to be simplistic- which is what your definition of left and right is-- then this is equally so. We lost our job, pension, savings- while BUsh was in. Right now Obama has the benefit of not having been in long enough to be a cause. Hey, give him some time.

It's one thing to be on SI where people attempt to learn the details and analyze patterns; it's another to expect insight and wisdom from a not very educated electorate who is going to blame the most recent party in charge. McCain-Palin was just not the convincing alternative that could have saved the Rep. party. I don't really know that there was one.

I am starting to think that the definition of middle is disliking whoever is in power as much as you dislike the the nasty attacks from the out of power. :)
