Funny how the Republicans were all for federalism (states rights) when the took over Congress in the 1990s, but medical marijuana was too taboo to include in their states rights philosophy. I think medical marijuana has been coopted by liberalism (when it is at its core a conservative states rights issue) because liberalism has taken on the cause of individual rights that conservatism consideders too taboo. In any case, I'm glad the Obama Adminstration is leaving it up to the states re: medical marijuana.

In the state I live in, it's liberal Democrats that are pushing for medical marijuana. The opposition is coming from conservative Republicans. I think that is the case in a lot of states regarding this issue, with the exception of Libertarian conservatives who'd rather leave the decision up to the individual.
