The simple translation is that Obama has been so busy doing what he needs to do to win elections that he has no real political philosophy other than a willingness to do or say whatever it takes to stay in power. Obama's speeches always sounded so good that no one demanded that they make sense when read the morning after. Nobody demanded coherence from him and he didn't demand it from himself. Now he will pay the price of incoherence.
