This poll was before the election so it begs the question "Succeed or fail at what?" Increasing the deficit? Killing more people in Iraq? Destabilizing the banks?

Rush claimed in his defense speech that 'Democrats wanted Bush to fail in Iraq', to which he got applause. He didn't say who said this, just that it was said. Why did he say it? He knew it would take the heat off him because we know what Rush was talking about - Obama's Economic Stimulus package. He was doing damage control.

Now that we are in a crisis that is potentially as bad as 1929 what is it that Rush wanted Obama to fail at? Okay, MAYBE it was initially vague, but he fixed that vagueness by saying, in effect, 'Unnamed and unspecified Democrats said they want the incumbent President to fail first'. Would you start telling racist jokes because someone else did it first? This is the basis of his defense. It's okay for him to want Obama to fail, because other people wanted Bush to fail in Iraq. No proof given just "They did it first." If it was wrong for the Democrats, why is Rush doing it?

Tim, do you think mainstream Democrats ever said "I want Bush to fail in Iraq."? I said, approximately, "I know we will fail in Iraq because of Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld poor planning and an undefined endgame." but that really isn't the same sentiment, is it?

You're a prodigious link poster - get back to me with a quote from a mainstream Democrat that said "I want Bush (or his policies) to fail in Iraq." And, BTW, make the quote from someone big and not "I think they will fail" which is a different sentiment.
