Tim, do you think mainstream Democrats ever said "I want Bush to fail in Iraq."?

"Mainstream" isn't precisely defined, and it could be carefully defined so as to exclude people who would say something like that, but generally even without carefully manipulating the definition, I'd say almost no one (and probably no one of any prominence), that could reasonably be described as a mainstream Democrat said such a thing.. I've seen it from people on SI, but they probably wouldn't be considered either prominent or mainstream.

OTOH, its not like Rush, or to my knowledge any other prominent Republican said "I want Obama to fail in his attempt to improve the economy", or (for those who agree with you about the risk of near depression level problems), "I want Obama to fail to keep us out of a depression". They (and they is a rather small number) said "I want Obama to fail", meaning they want his agenda to fail because they see it as bad for the country. I imagine that the same thing (with the parties reversed) was what was felt by an overwhelming majority of the 51% of Democrats who where polled who said they wanted Bush to fail.
