Whenever a party loses both White House and Congress, some in-party jockying for position is normal. The old leaders in Congress discredited the Republican message. They have to find some new faces. The White House is just trying to take a cheap shot by attacking Rush, since only 30% of the country likes Rush. In reality, they are cheapening themselves. Did you once hear Bush attack Michael Moore?

However, it takes no genius to predict that Obama's massive over-reach is going to provoke a backlash that will push a lot of people back into the Republican Party, there being no place else for the opposition to coalesce.

Both Jindal and Palin are possibilities for 2012 (if they want it enough), but the most urgent matter for the Republicans is to find the new Congressional leader. Eric Cantor may be it.

ps. I wouldn't underestimate Palin. Star power like that is very rare. Don't forget that she was essentially catapulted from the Alaskan to the national stage with no preparation last year, to be grilled by a press corps that was in love with with Barack Obama and was desperate to destroy her. None of those conditions will be the same in 2012 or 2016. Palin is very bright and tenacious. If she wants it, she could become a very formidable candidate.
