Google expands lead in U.S. search: Hitwise
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Google Inc. (GOOG:$308.17,00$17.28,005.94%) expanded its lead in the U.S. Internet search market in February at the expense of rivals Yahoo Inc. (YHOO:$13.23,00$0.57,004.50%) , Microsoft Corp. (MSFT:$16.48,00$1.33,008.78%) and Ask.com, according to data published Tuesday by Hitwise Pty. Ltd. Google (GOOG:$308.17,00$17.28,005.94%) captured 72.1% of U.S. searches in February, compared to 66.5% in the same period a year earlier. Meanwhile Yahoo (YHOO:$13.23,00$0.57,004.50%) captured 17% compared to 20.6% a year earlier, according to Hitwise. Microsoft (MSFT:$16.48,00$1.33,008.78%) captured 5.6% of searches compared 7% a year earlier, while Ask.com captured 3.7% compared to 4.1%.
