I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on meditation or other spiritual practices. I did TM for several years and quit. It seemed that it was like Benson at Harvard said - a relaxation response which was nice to do to feel more relaxed and less stressed out, but not much more.

I also did Vapasna meditation, which consists of paying attention to your breath, some other brand whose name escapes me where you do the "Breath of Fire" and snort a lot thru your nose (not good for allergic types like me), and zen meditation where you keep your eyes open and stare at a wall (the worst of the bunch IMO). I tried some meditation where I repeated some affirmations, too. I guess I'd be better off if I did some meditation on a regular basis, but maybe the lack of past positive results has kept me from doing so. Maybe it's like mutual funds, though - "Past results are not a guarantee of future performance." And maybe a meditation a day keeps the doctor away.

Any thoughts?
