No one, not even the state has the right to murder anyone except in true self defense. Think about how many wars would be fought if people actually believed that and lived by it.
I think most people agree about Madoff and his wife and children and relatives and employees...no one runs a business of that size for 20 years without complete complicity on the part of everyone in the office. Add to that the complicity of the SEC and, apparently, all but the 2-3 people who actually took a decade of complaints about Madoff seriously. Add to them the Wall Streeters, journalists, feeder funds, investors, charity board, pension funds, etc. etc. who saw his ridiculous returns and swallowed them whole.
They can go the way of all the investment bankers, mortgage brokers, car executives, car dealers, loan officers, realtors, developers, flippers, etc. etc. who knew the bubble was a bubble and played anyway expecting to come out ahead of the game. They all deserve to spend the next several years in orange jumpsuits picking up trash by the side of the road. |
