The current cold weather here in BC down through Califormia likely has to do with the Pacific Decadal Oscillation. jisao.washington.edu

There is much debate among climatologists about whether we are entering or have entered the next cycle, which of course can only be confirmed after the fact.

Within the overall climate you will find many such local phenomena, another reason it is so difficult, especially for the lay person, to draw meaningful conclusions.
