LC, did an analysis of temperature/precipitation trends for a major BC transportation enterprise, about 7 years ago.

The purpose of the analysis was to dispute the belief that warm, snowless winters were here to stay. It was predicted that snow-removal costs were about to spike. The suggestion was that we use weather derivatives and hedging to even out budgetary peaks (also for forex, fuel costs, hydro).

Since then we've entered a new 20-year cycle, in which the PDO and other cycles have combined to give us large snowfalls and plunging temperatures.

Do I believe the science? Absolutely. The predictions have been borne out.

However, data also demonstrated that warming would have a subtle effect. It would be disguised by the 20-year cycle, but present nonetheless.

Fortunately, I'm unlikely to be around when we emerge from this cycle.
