E. I am not going to argue the point of the analytical assaying methods you presented, these are all well thought out and knwon. I believe that what seems to be unique with these desert sands is the noble metals are so finely divided that they are not collected into the collector but most of the time end up in the slagg. In order to collect them in a collector, the ore must must completely disolved in an high temperature flux and then a collector that stays metalic (not an oxide) at those temperatureand in very fine form must be used to percolate through the fluid "glass" obtained and disolve within it the precious metals.

I think that one of the main problems they are having is that at high temperature you must pay attention to a large numbers of parameters to optimize this disolution. They can always get their minimum (of about .04 oz/ton) since these are gold particles probably on the sutface of the refractory ore. But to get the collector to interact with the fine particles within the refracvtory particles, they must completely disolve these particles and then make sure (high temperature aging) that the collector disolved the precious stuff. If the conditions (atmosphere, temperature, viscosity of the glass phase, distribution of the collector phase etc.) vary between different run, they may get irreproducible results. I think that is probably one of the reason they are having problems.
