Commodities are priced by supply and demand working in a largely free market. As for costs, technological innovation and economies of scale work in all industries including traditional energy industries. But cost improvements resulting from future technological innovations are matter of conjecture and not assured. While that (cost reduction) is the likely trend of technological innovation (even in oil and coal), the extent and duration of such trends is unknown. Accordingly its mistaken to simply assume that technology will necessarily make economical tomorrow what isn't today.
