My conclusion is that they work for oil and coal companies and are use to the way commodities are priced, which doesn't really follow the tech model that well. Different worlds and they are about to collide. Yeah they are essentially typewriter manufacturers (vintage 1985). And they are saying "Jeez nobody will be able to afford a PC, we'll be in business forever".
