It's all about getting something for nothing.

I think people evaluate where they are in the productivity pecking order and say either "I am better off providing for myself" or "I can't make it on my own, I need someone to pick up the slack" and they vote that way.

However, I think that the people looking for a handout fail to do the math that shows that a socialist economic structure is doomed from the start.

That's how con men work though....promise a deal too good to be true and let the greedy come to them. They won't ask the tough questions because they want the fantasy to be true.
