The need for reading glasses in people over 40 is a normal function of the aging process and cannot be corrected. What can be done is to leave one eye somewhat nearsighted on purpose in order to be able to read without glasses. In my case I had pre-laser RK. My right (dominant) eye is corrected to about 20/25 for pretty good distance vision. My left eye is about 20/40 so I can see to read without glasses. It works out pretty well.
