Hi Martin,

Other stuff == phone sets of the type Inter-Tel has that hang off the corporate intranet (with ethernet jacks as opposed to the usual phone jacks). The question I was answering was asking me to compare FTEL to Inter-Tel.

The Inter-Tel phone allows Inter-Tel PBX customers to have to maintain one network in-house instead of two. FTEL can do the same with their gateway; just the phones would have to come from someplace else.

Again, FTEL and Inter-Tel gateways are similar, they just seem to be concentrating on slightly different markets right now. I think FTEL will go after ISP based long-distance service first, especially since they already have an IP network through their own ISPs. Inter-Tel is going after corporate PBX systems. There is nothing inherent in the gateways that makes them suitable for one over the other. They will all try to sell everywhere.

I wish people would stop assuming I'm trying to put down FTEL. I am not, because in doing so I would be putting down my own work -- and I believe in my work! The FTEL gateway is very similar to the gateway that NMSS allows customers to build. Inter-Tel uses this, Netspeak uses this, and I keep finding out about others everyday. NMSS Fusion is very successful and hopefully FTEL's Tempest gateway will be too.
