You gotta have boots on the ground, defeat the enemy's ground forces, seize AND SECURE territory.
That's why we're going to continue to have problems in Afghanistan because we're not able to secure the borders between there and Pakistani sanctuaries. We can delay and disrupt by targeting leadership with pin-point strikes, but it isn't going to "drain the swamp".
And btw, from what I'm seeing, neither you, NOR OBAMA, were right about Iraq. Despite our obvious errors (due to Bremer's arrogance and ineptitude), we've recovered and neutralized most of the insurgents and the government has established some pretty good security.
