Imagine had we taken that $1 trillion and spent it on renewable energy to power America instead! We'd be darn close to energy independent right now and wouldn't need to give a shit about the Middle East at all.

Tell that to Obama.. Barely 10% of that $800 Billion package is going to alternative energy, and he's spending that within 2 years, not over the course of 6 years (as occurred with Iraq).

Furthermore, you don't decide foreign policy decisions that uphold UN binding resolutions based upon cost. Were we to take those kinds of stances, S. Korea would not exist, Kuwait would now be Iraq's 19th province (and possibly Saudi Arabia as well).

Finally, the cost of operations in Iraq are about $650 Billion, not $1 Trillion since 2003.

As for Afghanistan, the Taliban were overthrown in 2001. NOW WE'RE IN NATION BUILDING AND SECURITY OPERATIONS.

And unless you're prepared to go to war with Pakistan, you'd better be prepared to see certain levels of turmoil remaining in Afghanistan under we can stand up a sufficient force to guard their OWN borders.

The reality is that Saddam had to go down, if only for his undermining of the UN sanctions and breach of the cease fire agreement. The UN, flawed as it is, CAN NOT BE PERMITTED to turn into another League of Nations.
