Well, hospice wouldn't have mattered in her instance.

I don't understand that. If she experienced that while in hospice care they would have taken care of her--either fixed whatever temporary blip caused her to be "violently ill" or drugged her enough to relieve pain and comforted her until she died.

Edit: I understand your point about her not knowing she was dying. My mother died in a hospital from breast cancer. She never acknowledged that she was dying.
