If merging MIPS and SPARC is easy, I think Karl has a very good point
in selling MIPS and then merge with Sun. Sun believes it has to be BIG to survive; so merging with SGI without the MIPS luggage may be a very attractive proposition for Sun. I believe the cultures of Sun and
SGI are very compatible.

GE? The conventional wisdom that a company has to own at least 30%
market share to be viable came out of GE. They don't want to own any
business unless it is number 1 or number 2.

Merging with Apple is almost a Seinfeld thought. Two one-legged guys
joined at the hip make a two-legged body. Can it really walk? :)

Let's keep the speculation going. I'd speculate Computer Assoc is also a potential suiter. They serve the scavenging function in the software industry. I wonder if they would be willing to expand their horizon to include hardware businesses.
