That's funny, I had this same thought (that the delay in the Ft. Worth facility was completely intentional because Intel was planning to dedicate that facility to the initial Merced production). Brand new facility from scratch equipped with the best and latest semi mfg. equipment, ready about the same time that the chip is supposed to go into production.
