Yes I am also visiting the Amstel one or 2 times a year for a few years now. I´m a bit different... I hate winters so I don´t travel when its cold´, or rainy.

Usually I avoided the queens day or weeks when a big fair was there mostly because rooms were hard to come by..., but a local told me that this year is different in many aspects.

One of them that much less brits are coming over because they simply can´t afford the higher prices now. The pound used to be 1.4 Euros now it is less than 1.1 and the economic situation in UK is making them even less joyous. They have less desire to shell out the equivalent of L4 or L5 for barely a pint of beer.
Expect that the city is much less crowded this year.

I checked some hostels in the old city and recently they have rooms aplenty even late April.
