Would you apply the same reasoning to Mr. Bush, who was at a party for John McCain as Hurrican Katrina was bearing down on New Orleans?

Not the same reasoning because they're not the same thing... hurricanes cannot be avoided, and you would trust that local government would have taken early precautions to protect their residents from unnecessary harm, they didn't, they failed miserably and then blamed it on Bush... a national/global banking crisis with equity markets crashing would certainly warrant a more diligent focus and more immediate attention... the best example of that was Bush's response to the 9/11 attacks over the next immediate days/weeks...

Now, if you would have asked a different and more direct question, would I apply the same standard to Bush if he threw a party for McCain during the current crisis? Yes, I would, absolutely...
