Meghan McCain Tells Laura Ingraham: ‘Kiss My Fat Ass!’ Ingraham Responds That She Should ‘Lighten Up’

Last week, ThinkProgress first reported that right-wing radio host Laura Ingraham responded to Meghan McCain’s criticism of conservatives like Ann Coulter by mocking her as “plus-sized.” McCain responded to Ingraham on Twitter, telling her to “stop talking about my body.”

Today, McCain went on ABC’s The View, and the show opened with a discussion about Ingraham’s remarks. A clearly perturbed McCain said Ingraham was essentially discouraging young women from speaking their minds:

McCAIN: What do young women think when I speak my mind about politics and I want to have a political discussion abot the ideological future of the Republican party, and the answer is, “She’s fat, she shouldn’t have an opinion. What kind of message are we sending young women? … It infuriates me. I’m a political writer on a blog, and all of a sudden I’m too fat to write?

The ladies of The View were disgusted by Ingraham’s remarks. Conservative Elisabeth Hasselbeck called it a “low blow.” “The thing that makes it particularly annoying is that Laura Ingraham says she is someone who stands up for conservative women,” said Whoopi Goldberg. McCain continued to tear into Ingraham, tell her to kiss her ass:

McCAIN: When Tyra Banks went on her show in her bathing suit and said, “Kiss my fat ass.” That’s what I feel right now. I’m like “Kiss my fat ass!”
