Charger, I can't remember who asked the question about why BCMD went back to the placer mining area first instead of the pillars, but wouldn't it make sense that they could easily raise a little working capital in the placer before they went after the pillars?

Hard Rock mining is a whole (hole?<G>) different proposition than placer mining.

I've never mined gold, but I HAVE mined zinc which is hard rock mining all the way. Hard work, labor intensive and expensive (blasting costs).
Just a thought.
