The key on getting much of this trash out of the system is identifying real value, then auctioning it off, carefully, so private capital can be enticed to enter the system because of the relative bargain aspect. Then Uncle Sam get something in return. The need for transperancy, in order to deduce real underlying value, is critical. Seems so hard to do! And, of course, if mark to market could be suspended for a year or so....that would help ascertain real value...buyers and sellers encouraged to work things out without clearly artifical pricing mucking up the auction. Hey, if it doesn't work..we are no worse than now!
