Indicted bike-slam cop faces tour de prison BY BARBARA ROSS DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER Wednesday, December 17th 2008, 3:50 AM A rookie cop accused of a bone-rattling flagrant foul on a bicyclist during a Times Square rally was slammed Tuesday with assault and harassment charges. Officer Patrick Pogan, 23, whose cheap-shot tackle of cyclist Christopher Long was captured on a gotcha YouTube video, was also charged with afelony for filing a bogus police report. Pleading not guilty in Manhattan Supreme Court, Pogan faces up to four years in prison if convicted. "It's certainly sad and disappointing to see any officer indicted, particularly one who had only been out of the Police Academy three weeks," said Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. The son of a retired NYPD detective, Pogan singled out Long at a July 25 Critical Mass rally and body-checked the bicyclist onto the sidewalk, prosecutors say..... ------- OMG, it really is genetic. When will our society manage to delete these genes from our pool? We will be a much better society when these genes are nonstarters from an evolutionary perspective. People should be able to bike down the street without being assaulted by some guy on the public payroll.
