The AIG bonus flap unfortunately is tailor-made for PR manipulation. And manipulated it has been.

Who knows if the employees at the London AIG office responsible for BK'ing AIG can legally collect the bonus cash. Without seeing the actual employment contracts, it is difficult to say. Nonetheless, the fact remains that this office engaged in some really stupid antics. And made a ton of money for the bonus babies while engaged in them.

Now, our taxpayer money is being spent to put them in the green, despite their responsibility for the mess!

It understandably does not sit well with most people even though the amount is a drop in the bucket of all bailout cash thus far spent.

Da Peeps understandably want to string these guys up.

I have no patience or love for these folks, esp. for AIG employees. I have dealt with it as a lawyer; you will not find a more rotten corporate culture, one which attracted the low lifes of the insurance world. Remember the sleazy reinsurance deal with Buffett? Par for the course.

The only thing that comforts me is that the remorse will hound them when they are older and more introspective. But don't count on it, the AIG folks - the ones I have dealt with, anyway - are scum who existence revolves around the almighty dollah. The only way to hurt these scummy guys is in the pockebook.

Still, your post is a nice one. There are no doubt many clerical and other folks who had nothing to do with the mess who deserve better. But there are a lot of thugs as well who don't deserve our tax money.
