As usual, the middle class, where the tax hurts the most, will get hit with the Madoff losses because the victims will get tax deductions.

We can be sorry for the victims but all those regulators that looked the other way should be hit with some penalties perhaps based on reckless looking the other way.

Our society seems to reward this stuff. Now with the AIG clowns getting millions, it's in the news. So many saying that contracts can't be changed. But, every contract has implied covenants of good faith, fair dealing that would provide an opening to claim that these people used high risk beyond what would reasonable be called for in their employment. By structuring pay where high risk was rewarded and the entity failed, there is an argument that any contractual bonues should NOT be honored. Result arguably would be that by breaching these covenants, they don't get bonuses.
