HERNDON, VA -- (Marketwire) -- 03/18/09 -- XO Communications (OTCBB: XOHO) today announced that it has been selected to provide a nationwide converged wide area network solution for Road Runner Sports. Road Runner Sports is recognized by fitness and sports enthusiasts as having the world's largest selection of men's and women's running shoes, jogging shoes, running apparel and accessories for beginning runners to seasoned marathoners, cross-country runners and triathletes.
XO Communications will provide a fully managed converged IP voice and data solution connecting 21 Road Runner Sports locations across 10 states. Road Runner Sports will utilize XO IP Flex with VPN, which combines the advantages of the award-winning XO IP Flex service and private data networking capabilities of XO MPLS IP-VPN into one, simple converged IP voice and data wide area networking solution. The XO solution will help Road Runner Sports achieve improved cost-efficiencies by converging voice and data traffic over a single IP network infrastructure and create a more scalable, application-aware wide area network to support optimal performance for corporate applications, company databases, email, point of sale transactions and the company's migration to Voice over IP (VoIP).
Prior to selecting XO Communications, Road Runner Sports had relied on numerous service providers and utilized different types of network access methods, including cable, DSL and T1-based services, which made management of its network time-consuming and costly. By consolidating its nationwide locations and voice and data on one network with XO Communications, Road Runner Sports estimates the XO solution will help reduce network and administration costs.
