How can we know that?

One Saudi king was assassinated. Fanatics have seized control of the Kaaba before and the Saudis had to turn to French troops to retake it for them.

The below is all stuff I recall learning back in the 1970's and I expect it hasn't changed much:

The Saudi armed forces are divided between an army and a national guard, both about the same size and both configured to be a check on the other. The oil fields themselves are guarded by foreign security forces - at one time a company named Wackenhut had the contract (don't know about now). Their military bases out in the boondocks have no roads connecting them so rebellious troops at one base couldn't join up with another base. I don't know if this is true now, but for many decades their air force was pretty much permanently grounded and never flew without foreign nationals on the planes. I'd say they fear a coup very much.
