Daily Presidential Tracking Poll
Thursday, March 19, 2009 Email to a FriendAdvertisement
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 37% of the nation’s voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty percent (30%) now Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of +7 (see trends).

Voters continue to give the President’s budget proposal mixed reviews and are concerned about the amount of proposed government spending. Democratic voters tend to see health care reform as the top budget priority while Republicans and unaffiliated voters see deficit reduction as most important.

Thirty-five percent (35%) of all voters now say the U.S. is heading in the right direction. That’s the highest level of optimism in recent years. At the same time, Republicans have inched ahead of Democrats on the Generic Congressional Ballot.

The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates also available on Twitter.

Overall, 56% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President’s performance so far while 43% disapprove. For more, see Obama By the Numbers or recent demographic highlights.
