Because so little gold is consumed (by dental work or arthritis treatments or windows coatings) I certainly agree that what's in the ocean is going to stay in the ocean.

But I do think it's time to demystify gold. It's just another form of matter. And it is well within human capabilities to get hold of a great deal more of it. The methods developed in such an astonishingly short time in the 1940s to separate Uraniun 238 from 235 were much more remarkable than anything in gold-refining technology.

As it happens I have quite a bit squirreled away -- but I also have home insurance, automobile insurance, automobile airbags, a shotgun in the closet, health insurance, job security, liability insurance, health insurance, and various other hedges.

For investment, efficient gold producers seem the only real candidates.
