ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Sept 10 (Reuters) - Reno-based Ormat Technologies Inc (ORA.N) bid over $3.5 million on Wednesday for rights to explore for geothermal energy beneath an active volcano near Alaska's largest city.

The company won 15 of the 16 tracts offered for lease on Mount Spurr, a snowcapped 11,070-foot (3,374 meters) volcano, 75 miles (120 km) west of Anchorage, according to preliminary results from the sale conducted by the Alaska Division of Oil and Gas.
