What exactly do they find so objectionable about providing a better life for 99% of Americans?

The fact that its an irrelevant fantasy in terms of the ideas your talking about, and in fact the reality is closer to the opposite.

And an even more important question is why would we want an economy that grows faster and gets even larger than it is today
