He doesn't make a confident specific reason for LA's traffic problems, calling the reasons murky (actually its "murkier than they may seem", which doesn't automatically imply very murky if people think the reasons seem clear). He says its possible to make the case that LA's traffic problems stem from LA's underdeveloped "undersized freeway network".

Sorry but you need to stop listening to this guy. The vast majority of freeways in LA are ten or twelve lanes. Within the city, there is no more room to build more freeways. The reason that LA is a mess is because at one time LA was the model for the new American city....low density, sprawling, linked by freeways. They dismantled their extensive light rail system.....it was bought up by GM. For decades, bond issue after bond issue to build mass transit was rejected by the predominately conservative population. It wasn't until the late 80s the population realized their stupidity which coincides with many of the more conservative Angelenos leaving for greener pastures.

He doesn't fully develop that argument, but he does reference his earlier posts showing that LA, while number 2 in the country in freeway miles, has less freeway lane miles per capita than any of the other 36 most populous cities in the country. (Which surprised me a bit, I always bought the standard picture that LA was loaded with tons of freeways).

It has less freeways per capita because the city sprawls for miles and miles. It has more then enough freeways. Freeways are not the solution as I have been arguing with you for a while.
